Mesothelioma

Answer to last riddle: o t t f f s s e n t. Corresponds to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

Hey guys, I got a question for everyone: What the hell is mesothelioma? It's sorta a riddle... Though not really. Wiki definition of mesothelioma is some form of cancer. I understand that patients diagnosed with mesothelioma have no cure. And also that mesothelioma risk is almost solely derived from exposure to asbestos. And as far as I know, mesothelioma causes are completely exclusive to asbestos inhalation, radiation, zeolite (whatever that is!)

Apparently, mesothelioma deaths are still on the rise today. But I guess my question is, why is mesothelioma such a highly debated topic? I mean, sure it's terrible and causes a ton of risk and has a 10% 5-year survival rate. But what about any other diseases...?

Anyway. I did not intend to offend anyone who is or knows someone afflicted with mesothelioma, and if that's the case, I shall keep you in my prayers. I especially did not mean to belittle the condition as I recognize its severity. Just wanted to clear that up hah...

The paragraph below is most unusual. How quickly can you find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so ordinary you'd think nothing was wrong with it - and in fact, nothing is wrong with it. It is unusual though. Why?

"Gatsby was walking back from a visit down in Branton Hill's manufacturing district on a Saturday night. A busy day's traffic had had its noisy run; and with not many folks in sight, His Honour got along without having to stop to grasp a hand, or talk; for a mayor out of City Hall is a shining mark for any politician. And so, coming to Broadway, a booming bass drum and sounds of singing, told of a small Salvation Army unit carrying on amidst Broadway's night shopping crowds. Gatsby , walking towards that group, saw a youg girl, back toward him, just finishing a long, soulful oration ... "

The above passage is taken from the book "Gatsby" written by Ernest Vincent Wright in the late 1930's.

  8. wow, avoiding a vowel for an entire paragraph is pretty impressive! i cheated too though

as for mesothelioma, i think the main concern is how fast it strikes. most cancers are very gradual processes, but mesothelioma only needs a month or two of asbestos exposure to ruin a life. it's quick, and we really don't know how much asbestos is "too much" so it's easy to sensationalize. the media eats that kind of thing up.

  13. the reason why meso is such a big deal is that so many buildings in the 60s-80s were built with asbestos in them.

  14. It's been said before, but the most common letter in the English language, 'E', is not used in the entire book.

Also, it's called 'Gadsby', not 'Gatsby'.

  18. As I study this confounding paragraph, I start to spot an astounding lack of any "e"'s. Fairly odd, compounding such a group of words is notably difficult. I should know.

  20. mesothelioma is so heavily advertised about because in this day and age, anyone who gets it got it from asbestos, which no one should be subjected to. So, if you were subjected to it, its likely because of someone else's negligence, which meaans simply put, "enjoy your lawsuit"

  21. I cheated and read the comments first. No "e" is pretty impressive. Sounds kinda fun to try to write like that! =D
